WAPPY authors & Writers at the Prestigious Huntley Conference!

Writer's picture: WAPPYWAPPY

In February 2019 young people from WAPPY, ages 6 to 16 performed poetry from our Arts Council-funded publication and created in various ‘People Who Have Changed the World’ workshops for the Huntley Archives Conference. Held at the London Metropolitan Archives today they delivered brilliantly, made me, WAPPY and their families so proud and blew minds away. Best of all after their performances we had a massive boost in book sales so we’ll continue to reinvest in WAPPY actives to reach more young people.

Here’s is Renée Dawkin’s performing her 2015 award-winning poem, ‘Bob Marley’ at the close of the event. Earlier, Kyra Nelson’s poetic tribute to Jessica Huntley moved an attentive audience, poetry contest prize -winners, Ivy Oppong, Nyah Walcott-Quansah & Effie Quansah-George read poems published in ‘Wonderful World of WAPPY.

Thank you to our parents and WAPPY team of volunteers for supporting the workshops and/or for helping out today including John Durston, Carolyn Warner, Rahwa Ghergish, Manjinder Chijarh, Anjan Saha as well as WAPPY writers, Effie Quansah-George, Mercy Grace Sumuyiwa and T-Khai James-Palmer-Wahome-Kellehey for helping out with the bookstall. A big thanks too to Ealing’s Library Service at Acton and Southall branch for providing the space which made the creative productions possible.

We give thanks to the organisers of the conference including Beverley Mason, and our Patron, Eric Huntley, for a wonderful day!
