Hammersmith & West London Writers' Festival Update

I & WAPPY had the pleasure of meeting & working with Joyce Osei (author of ‘The Adventures of Amma & Kwesi in Barbados’ at the recent Family & Friends Rounders & Sports Day (Wormwood Scrubs Park) and/or at the recent Hammersmith & Fulham’s Writers’ Festival event, where Sista Joyce Osei & WAPPY & author, Trovers Orrs, and I (Akuba) ran excellent individual workshops at Shepherds Bush Library.

A massive congratulations to Rasheda Malcolm, the panel, guest authors and all who contributed to the phenomenal success of the Festival. WAPPY is particularly proud of Effie Quansah-George & Ivy Oppong for their excellent interviewing of editors/authors, Suzette Llewellyn (‘EastEnders’ actress) & Suzanne Packer (‘Casualty’ actress) about the landmark anthology, ‘Still Breathing: Black Voices on Racism. 100 Ways to Change the Narrative.’

Well done to Mark Mwangi’s contribution to the opening of the children’s event.

Also a big congratulations to all those who were winners and runner ups in the children’s writing competition component of the Festival. The standard was exceptionally high and all the poetry and story submissions were wonderful to read. Here are the shortlisted entries:
