This fun-packed online session includes a quiz, an ice-breaker game, audio-visual material, and discussion to inspire young people to produce creative pieces (e.g., a poem, monologue, short debate, short story, report, etc.) for presentation or performance at upcoming events and/or possible future publication!    Parents/guardians please complete the downloadable WAPPY Registration form accessible via this link https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JK6NWux4gFr1fseWLm7s3ZrLkPqTQZxoyrmol33hHDo/edit?usp=sharing, and return it to wappy@live.com before the start of the session.  We need parental consent for publicity, as well as to know if your children have any specific needs you'd like us to cater for.

Questors Theatre In Ealing

Windrush-themed creative pieces can be presented or performed for Krik Krak's  Windrush Heritage event at Questors Theatre (Ealing, 2 Mattock Ln, London W5 5BQ) on Sunday 23rd July, 4 pm - 4.20 pm.  Organised by Marge Lowhar and Mervyn Weir, the event per se is in two parts; part one is between 2.30 to  5.30 pm, and will launch Mervyn's Weir's brilliant new book and KS1, 2, & 3 resources for teaching about 'Mr. Windrush' - Sam King, who made such an incredible contribution to preserving the Windrush legacy. Contributors comprise an interview with Windrush Pioneer & Chair of the Windrush Foundation, Arthur Torrington, Alexander de Great, Dr Michelle Yaa Asantewaa, Romelda Williams, performance by WAPPY (Writing, Acting & Publishing Project for Youngsters) writers plus a Poetry Workshop.  Part 2 from 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm onwards, we have Sounds of Windrush Theatre Production. 2.15-3.15pm - WAPPY presents the New Gen creative writing workshop with Thomas "Ghetto Geek" Owoo and...

3.30-4.30pm - Sharing session, also hosted by Thomas Owoo, to read your work in front of a supportive audience.

What is Spoken Word Poetry?

Spoken word poetry is a word-based performance art where speakers engage in powerful self-expression by sharing their views on particular topics for a live audience, focusing on sound and presentation. Spoken word performances require memorization, performative body language (like gestures and facial expressions), enunciation, and eye contact with viewers.

Spoken word poetry is a form of poetry that doesn’t have to rhyme, but certain parts can be rhymed to emphasize an image or give it a lyrical quality. Spoken word poems will sometimes contain elements of hip-hop, folk music, or jazz to enhance the rhythmic presentation (https://www.masterclass.com/articles/how-to-write-spoken-word-poetry#7vdmDtaw5YztiR9jLIAiOM).

Locked Workshop

Once started the workshop and all our participants have arrived, as host, I will lock the workshop so that no one else can join.

Parent&(s) Joining the Session

A young person (age 4-18) can only join a session provided a parent is in the session, though they can be in the background and not necessarily visible all the time. We may wish to record part of the session for evaluation purposes. If we do, we will ask for parental l consent in advance. No adult can join this session unless you are a WAPPY volunteer, parent/guardian or have been invited by WAPPY. Virtual

Waiting Rooms

WAPPY will use a virtual waiting room to enable WAPPY to check who each person is before allowing them entry. Known WAPPY participants we can enable them to skip the waiting room to speed things up.

No Screen Sharing will be allowed for participants. Only Akuba (Grace)

No Private Messaging

To prevent distractions in the session WAPPY will not allow any private messaging between members, so to prevent peer talking without the knowledge of Akuba. Uninvited Visitors will be removed if someone manages to join our virtual workshop, we will remove them via the Participants Menu.

I will complete all tasks on time

I will actively listen when the teacher is speaking

I will not chew gum (added by group)

I will switch off my mobile before the start of the course

WAPPY’S WORKSHOP CODE OF PRACTICE 

An orderly WAPPY workshop is paramount for efficiency in all its activities and for the mutual benefit of all its users. All members and staff must be treated with respect and courtesy.

The Code of Conduct is based on the four ‘C’s’ – cooperation with others, consideration of others, caring for others and courtesy towards others.
